Abstract:

Due to diminishing petroleum reserves and the environmental negative effects of exhaust gases from diesel engines, alternative fuels for diesel engines are becoming increasingly important Egyptian waste cooking oils have special specifications because it expose to high temperatures during use for long hours. In the present experimental study, the performance and emissions of a four strokes, single cylinder, air cooled diesel engine fuelled with two different biodiesel from Egyptian used cooking oil (palm and sunflower) are evaluated at different speeds. The measured performance parameters include torque, fuel consumption and exhaust gas temperature. Brake power, brake specific fuel consumption and brake thermal efficiency was calculated using the measured test data The emission parameters include carbon monoxide, particulate matter and the oxides of nitrogen. The tests have been carried out with different blends of B5 to B100 of biodiesel with diesel fuel. The results showed that the engine performance with the palm biodiesel blend B5 is closed to diesel fuel also, for B5 CO emission decreased from 53 to 70% while NOx emission decreased from 13 to 80% compared to diesel fuel.

Performance and Emissions of a Tractor engine operating on biodiesel-diesel blends with EGR

The influences of different diesel/biodiesel blends and EGR rate on brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), exhaust gas temperature, NO, HC, CO emissions, are studied and demonstrated. In this paper a four stroke direct injection, water cooled, diesel engine was used. Biodiesel either in neat form or as a blend with diesel fuel is extensively investigated to solve the twin problem of reduction ...

Diesel Engine Performance and Exhaust Emissions Using Cottonseed Oil Biodiesel

Non-road diesel engines are significant contributors to air pollution in the United States (USEPA, 2004). These engines emit particulate matter (PM), nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and other pollutants. The Clean Air Non-road Diesel Rule was put in place to reduce emission levels from agricultural, construction, and industrial diesel powered equipment. This rule calls for a reduct...

Evaluate the effect of biodiesel and EGR system on diesel engine emissions

Vehicle Emission is one of the main causes of environmental damage. Vehicle engines produce carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrocarbon (HC), Nitrogen oxides (NOx) and many other harmful substances. An investigation was conducted using a compression-ignition engine fuelled with different ratios of blends of diesel and biodiesel at different EGR rates. The effects of different ratios of fuel blends and EG...

Prediction and Comparison of the Effect of N-butanol and Ethanol Addition to the Biodiesel-diesel Fuel Mixture on the Performance and Emissions Characteristics of a Diesel Engine

The main objective of this research is to study the effects of n-butanol and ethanol addition to the biodiesel-diesel fuel mixture on the performance and emission characteristics of a CI engine. The experimental tests were performed on a diesel engine. The RSM (Response Surface Methodology) method was used to develop mathematical models based on experimental data. According to the results, the ...

Effects of Canola Biodiesel on a DI Diesel Engine Performance and Emissions

A direct injection (DI) diesel engine is tested with different biodiesel-diesel blends, such as B0 (neat diesel), B5 (i.e., 5 vol. % biodiesel and 95 vol. % diesel), B10 (10 vol. % biodiesel), B20 (20 vol. % biodiesel), B50 (50 vol. % biodiesel), and B100 (neat biodiesel) for performance and emissions under different load conditions. Engine performance is examined by measuring brake specific fu...
